Why taste wine in Valle de La Orotava?
The Canary Islands were untouched by the 19th-century phylloxera blight that swept Europe. Consequently, the vines in the Orotava Valley are original, ungrafted European rootstocks, some producing fruit for well over a century.
Winemakers preserve the cordón trenzado (braided cordon), a viticultural method found nowhere else on Earth where vine branches are braided into long ropes up to 15 metres in length. High elevation, trade winds and basaltic volcanic soils give native grapes like Listán Negro and Listán Blanco an unmistakable saline freshness and smoky depth.
What to expect
Vineyard walk among braided vines
Stroll between historic terraced vines overlooking Mount Teide and the ocean while learning how the cordón trenzado is braided by hand.
Cellar tour and barrel tasting
Visit barrel rooms to discover how winemakers use neutral oak foudres and concrete eggs to preserve pure volcanic terroir.
Tasting paired with local cheeses
Sample 4 to 6 estate wines accompanied by cured local goat cheeses and traditional mojo sauces.
