Jokkmokk & Laponia in 60 seconds

Just north of the Arctic Circle in forested Norrbotten, Jokkmokk has served as a winter gathering place for Sámi communities and traders since 1605. Today it is the cultural heart of Swedish Sápmi and the eastern gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage Laponian Area — 9,400 square kilometres of old-growth taiga, glacier-carved peaks in Sarek, alpine lakes in Padjelanta and living reindeer-herding landscapes. Spend a day at Ájtte Museum and the Arctic Alpine Botanical Garden before venturing into Muddus or Stora Sjöfallet.
