Vlorë in 60 seconds

Where the Adriatic and Ionian Seas converge, Vlorë occupies a storied natural harbour enclosed by the rugged Karaburun Peninsula and Sazan Island. It was here on 28 November 1912 that Ismail Qemali raised the double-headed eagle flag, declaring Albanian independence after five centuries of Ottoman rule. Today, Vlorë charms visitors with its palm-lined Lungomare promenade, the serene 13th-century Saint Mary's Monastery on forested Zvërnec Island, and boat departures into wild maritime sea caves.
