Saxon Switzerland in 60 seconds

Saxon Switzerland's name is misleading in the best way: this is a sandstone landscape in eastern Germany, with cliffs, table mountains and deep wooded cuts above the Elbe. Bad Schandau is a useful rail-linked base. The Bastei is spectacular but busy; quieter walks around Schrammsteine or the Kirnitzsch valley need more time and route planning. Stay on marked paths to protect the fragile rock and forest habitats.
