Safranbolu & Amasra in 60 seconds

Hidden among the wooded valleys of the Western Black Sea region, Safranbolu is Turkey's premier open-air museum of traditional Ottoman civil architecture. Over a thousand half-timbered, white-stucco mansions (konaks) line cobbled lanes that once anchored caravan trade routes enriched by precious saffron cultivation. Just an hour north through mountain pine passes, the dramatic coastal town of Amasra juts into the Black Sea, connecting two fortified promontories with a Roman stone bridge, seaside fish restaurants and panoramic island battlements.
