Rhodes in 60 seconds

Rhodes is the legendary island of the Knights Hospitaller, crowned by one of Europe's largest and most intact fortified medieval cities. Behind four kilometres of monumental sandstone battlements and dry moats lies a living gothic world of cobblestone alleys, arched gateways and the fortress-palace of the Grand Master. Beyond the capital, the island unfolds along golden Aegean beaches, ancient acropolises perched above whitewashed coastal villages like Lindos, and fragrant pine-scented mountain valleys.

Know before you go

Old Town Walking
The Old Town is entirely car-free and paved with rounded sea pebbles (chochlakia). Flat, cushioned footwear is vital for walking on stone lanes.
Luggage in Citadel
Taxis cannot enter Old Town residential gates. Arrange a luggage porter with your hotel or choose accommodation near D'Amboise or Saint Athanasios gates.
Island Driving
The coastal dual carriageway connects Rhodes Town to Lindos in 50 minutes. Renting a car for one or two days is the most practical way to explore Kamiros and Monolithos.
Best Season
Rhodes enjoys one of Greece's longest warm seasons, with pleasant swimming and comfortable sightseeing extending from May well through October.
