Paphos Archaeological Park
Roman villas and floor mosaics at Nea Paphos
The mosaics reward a slow visit; take shade and water in the hotter months.

In 60 seconds
Paphos is most compelling beneath the modern resort: the villas of Nea Paphos hold exceptional Roman mosaics, and the rock-cut Tombs of the Kings extend the ancient city north along the coast. UNESCO's Paphos property also includes the Sanctuary of Aphrodite at Kouklia, so the story is larger than the harbour alone. See the archaeological park early, then follow the waterfront in the evening; allow a second day for Kouklia or the inland monasteries.
