Lahemaa National Park in 60 seconds

Covering over 700 square kilometres of northern Estonia's Gulf of Finland coastline, Lahemaa ('Land of Bays') was established in 1971 as the very first national park in the Soviet Union. Its dramatic landscape encompasses sweeping coastal peninsulas, bouldered beaches scattered with glacial erratics, mossy pine forests, and vast peat bogs traversed by wooden boardwalks, most famously the mystical Viru Bog with its lookout tower rising above dark tea-coloured pools. Anchoring this wild nature are three magnificent restored Baltic German baronial estates: the grand Baroque manor and parklands of Palmse, the romantic pink distillery estate of Sagadi, and the elegant riverside retreat of Vihula. Along the wooded shoreline, historic fishing hamlets like Käsmu ('the Captains' Village') and Altja preserve authentic wooden timber lore.
