Kranjska Gora in 60 seconds

Tucked into the tri-border valley where Slovenia, Austria, and Italy converge beneath the sheer northern ramparts of the Julian Alps, Kranjska Gora is Slovenia's premier all-season mountain resort. In winter, world-class racers contest the prestigious Vitranc Cup slalom down its snowfields; in summer, the valley transforms into an active playground of cycling paths, alpine hiking routes, and glacial swimming. On the edge of town lie the luminous turquoise twin pools of Lake Jasna, guarded by a bronze statue of Zlatorog, the mythical golden-horned chamois of Slavic legend. Just up the valley stands Planica, the sacred cradle of ski jumping and ski flying where humans first soared past the 100-metre and 200-metre barriers on skis. Kranjska Gora is also the northern gateway to the dramatic Vršič Pass, winding through fifty hairpin bends into the Soča Valley.
