In 60 seconds
Along the middle Dnipro south of Kyiv, steep loess hills drop to the broad river valley that inspired Ukraine's national poet, Taras Shevchenko. Climb Chernecha Hora (Taras Hill) in Kaniv to see Shevchenko's memorial and the 1144 Assumption Cathedral, then continue downstream to Cherkasy's pine-shaded Sosnovyi Bir park and Vladimir Shukhov's 1914 steel hyperboloid water tower.
