Jajce in 60 seconds

Dramatically situated at the confluence of the Pliva and Vrbas rivers in Central Bosnia, Jajce is one of the only towns in the world whose urban centre crowns a thundering 21-metre natural waterfall. Once the fortified capital of the medieval Kingdom of Bosnia where King Stjepan Tomašević was crowned in 1461, the walled citadel commands panoramic vistas over forested mountain valleys. Within its compact stone centre lie layered relics of two millennia: a mysterious 3rd-century subterranean temple of Mithras, 15th-century underground royal catacombs, the Romanesque bell tower of Saint Luke, and a cluster of fairy-tale wooden watermills (Mlinčići) lining the Pliva lakes upstream.
