Blagaj in 60 seconds

Tucked directly against a sheer 200-metre vertical limestone cliff face just 12 kilometres southeast of Mostar, Blagaj is one of the most spiritually evocative and hydrologically astonishing sanctuaries in the Balkans. Here, the Buna River explodes directly from an immense subterranean karst cavern at an astonishing rate of 43,000 litres per second, forming Europe's largest karst spring (Vrelo Bune) with water so pure and cold that it glows electric turquoise. Right at the water's edge stands the historic Blagaj Tekke (Tekija), a pristine 16th-century Ottoman dervish monastery combining classic Ottoman residential architecture with sacred Bektashi and Halveti Sufi spiritual traditions.
